How to Reinvent Your Career

There may be several reasons of why you might have to reinvent your career. Some of them include reasons such as recently being laid off, a change of location or even changing your path of education in college. Whatever the reason, it can be stressful when entering a new line of work. As long as you have a positive attitude and are flexible, you can make reinventing your career less stressful.

When you begin to reinvent your career, the first thing you want to do is select your areas of interest. Find out what types of work appeals to you. For example, if you love being around children, you may consider becoming a teacher or a daycare operator. If you can't get enough of sales and thrive for a bustling work environment, you might consider a job in marketing or selling products and services. Write down the types of activities that you are interested in, and then match them with jobs available in the work-force. You may consider trying entry or junior jobs to find out what types of activities that you will be interested in.

You also need to assess your skills and then compare them to the current job market's need. Some of the most popular job markets that are always looking for assistance include the health-care industry, truck-driving and education. The medical field is always expanding and looking for more doctors, nurses and office assistants. Many companies are always looking for drivers to haul their products to selected destinations. The education field will always need more teachers and assistants to teach children and those working towards a degree.

Once you have selected your areas of interest and have assessed your skills, it's time to decide what type of work environment that you work best in. Do you enjoy being around large groups of people? Or would you rather work one on one? Some jobs may require you to make compromises as well. Some days you may have to work in the office-while on other days-you will be out in the field or working from another location. Try working in an entry level position or a junior job to find out what type of work environment you can adapt yourself to.

When you begin looking for another career, you must consider other aspects of your life. Each part of your life must have equal attention and balance. Reinventing your career is a lot of hard work at first. Be sure to consider the other parts of your life such as family, spiritual, mental, physical, social, and rest. While it is important to have a career so that you can build financial stability, spending time with your family and getting plenty of rest is also important.

If you are looking for a simple way to reinvent your career, you can use the following tips that have been listed, or use the SWOT analysis tool. To use the SWOT analysis, write down the following lists and then apply them to yourself:

 ? List your strengths.

? List your weaknesses.

? Look for opportunities that you can develop within your own career

? Assess the threats that you face. (Ex: level of competition or who can block you from moving up)

Once you have began to find out what types of jobs interest you, the types of activities you enjoy and a list of your strengths and weaknesses, you can then decide what type of career that you are interested in . You can always try out different places of employment by applying for junior jobs so that you have an idea of what that career will be like. When trying out a new job, always keep a positive attitude so that you can be successful in whatever career that you choose.
